Day/Night Cycle

Pixelands runs on a living 24-hour day/night cycle. The world brightens at dawn, glows through the day, fades through dusk, and falls into darkness at night — and the night brings danger.

The cycle

  • Day — full brightness; the safest time to build and explore the surface.
  • Dusk — light gradually fades as the sun sets.
  • Night — the surface darkens and night bats come out.
  • Dawn — darkness lifts and the cycle begins again.

A HUD indicator shows the current time, time-of-day, and weather so you always know how close night is.

Night darkness

At night the surface is covered in spreading darkness. Light sources — and your own player glow — push back the dark, creating a circle of vision around lit areas. Worlds with plenty of light blocks stay far more playable after dark than unlit ones.

Light up your world before nightfall. A well-lit base keeps the darkness — and the bats — at bay.

Weather

The cycle pairs with weather conditions that change the look and feel of the world over time, layered on top of the day/night lighting.

Tips

  • Place light blocks around your build so you can keep working at night.
  • Head underground or into the mines if the surface gets too dangerous after dark.
  • Watch the HUD clock so nightfall never catches you out in the open.
